SMASH Regular club meeting - 3rd Thursday of August 2017

 

 

Lyon County Fair Aug 9-13:

 We will be recieving $150 from our sponsor - Prairie Winds Construction of Tyler - will send them a thank you card.  Derek will get some thank you’s printed.  Will also send one to Runnings of Redwood.

 28.5 gallons served: 3.5 gallons Kolsch, 3.5 gallons Cream Ale, 6 gallons Pear Cider, 3 gallons Orange Shandy, 2 gallons Irish Stout, 3 gallons Barrel Amber, 2.5 gallons Cascade&Columbus IPA, 3 gallons Cascade&Amarillo IPA, 2 gallons White Chocolate Blonde Stout

 

Red Baron Arena & Expo:

 Darin Rahm came and spoke to the club - they would like for the club to put on a beer show in July of 2018.  Darin would give us the venue for free and cover our insurance.  Site is large

enough for 100 booths.  We could also use the rink for cold storage prior to event.

 Researching, feasibility, ideas and looking into getting some partners.

 Board members will checked out the arena and are gathering ideas

 

Club Trailer & Club Gear:

 Beverage Elements will be sending us a complimentary ball lock keg as sponsorship for hopfest!

 Trailer cooling working great so far - electric cord length was doubled and worked great

 New temp controller was very nice and will be super handy for future use.

 Still looking for options to get the trailer insured.

 Will continue to check into buying some 5 gallon club barrels...may want to see if any members

want in on the order too.  Some discussion over whether the club should buy a 5 gallon barrel.  Martin will send out a club survey.

 

Club 15 gallon Barrel:

 Next up around Oct, Nov: Who wants the barrel next?  Needs to be 15 gallons

 Russian Imperial Stout -  In the barrel - will open around Christmas

 Amber ale - kegged and ready to serve - about 4 gallons remain

 Irish stout - kegged and ready to serve - about 4 gallons remain

 Doc’s porter - Only 24 22oz bottles remain

 

T-shirts and hoodies:.  

 Shirts are in - just a couple more need to be distributed.

 Dave will send info on ordering tank tops

 

Financials: The balance for the SMASH account is at $2198.7 as of 8/16/2017.   Does not include some t-shirt payments.

 

Membership: We are currently at 52 memberships - Need to discuss increasing dues next year to purchase club insurance.  Recent new members: Jennifer & Josh Johnson, Mike and Shelly Carter, Brent & Cheryl Droll

 

Club Picnic: Sunday before Labor day weekend - Sunday August 27 - Brewing to start around 10 AM, potluck to start around noon, club will provide brats, burgers and hotdogs.  Need to get estimated head count

 Cascade, chinook & willamette hops are best

 

Hopfest 2017: Weekend after Labor Day - Friday & Saturday September 8-9

 If we could sell 150 pretzels, the club would clear around $350.

 Tuesday Sept 5 meeting at Tom’s house for pretzel making - after work.

 

Club Bowling Outing: Thursday September 21 - After work - At Kevin’s bowling alley in Tyler - Bring homebrew!

 

Club Campout: Friday-Sunday Sep 29-Oct 1 - Garvin Park upper campground

 

Christmas Party: Pairing dinner again!  Sent an email to Dustin to get a menu together, will start getting brewers lined up and draw for courses once that is finalized.  

 Mary confirmed they can do Tuesday Dec 5 for the same per plate cost as year: $31

 Dustin and Mary will get us a menu list soon.

 

SMASH Brew with Dustin: Talked to Dustin - He’s interested...need to set a date.

 

ACE Sample Kits: Di confirmed that ACE will donate up to 10 kits again this year for samples

 7 kits so far: 2 IPAs, Cream ale, Kolsch, Orange Shandy, 2 Pear cider

 Jason indicated he would make another kit for Hopfest and will talk to Di

 There is about 1 gallon each of Cream Ale & Kolsch - combine?

 

Education Info:

 Tom did a short informational session on Fresh Hopping

 Shawn - stout guy from cities, would be best on weekend.

 Paul: Sour styles - on Tuesday Oct 3.

 Martin: Pilsner styles - Nov?

 Brian: Belgian styles -

 Julie and Wendi will prep some bottles and do a hop tasting at the club picnic on Aug 27
